Bangladeshi

I was born in the port city of Chittagong, Bangladesh, and raised in the multi-national city of Queens, New Yo...rk. My family has taught my generation how to embody the true characteristics of a melting pot, where we have taken the Bangladeshi cultures and traditions and merged them with the Western world giving us a chance to enjoy what extraordinary wonders both have to offer. It was very important to my family when we migrated to assimilate into this ‘new’ culture but not forget our own culture and traditions. Food was a great way to keep that culture, hold onto the connection to our homeland, and never forget our origins. My parents loved to cook, and our house was always full of the aromas of fragrant (sometimes pungent) but still satisfying foods cooking. Each dish had stories, and as my mother cooked, she hummed, and she quietly passed on the passion that she, my father, and both my grand-fathers had for food and the cuisine of their land. As I grew up in my home, I learned to cook by senses such as sight, smell, and taste, where I can tell if I’m missing an ingredient or if the quantity is off just by the aroma of the dish. I don’t take lightly and am most blessed to have gained this passion, experience, and knowledge. Whenever I get a chance, I share my food with my friends, neighbors, and co-workers. I cook for school events, office functions, church events, and sometimes even just for the sake of cooking delicious food. Now I want to cook for you, my neighbors and fellow New Yorkers. I want you to experience the same tastes and aromas, which I grew up loving. As you’re eating my food, you should feel the same excitement I feel about eating the food, and as you take each bite, I hope you’re able to see that Bengali or Bangladeshi food is quite different from any other type of food. Currently, I’m taking courses at ICE to hone in my cooking skills, broaden my capabilities, and expand on my knowledge. Baking is another joy of mine, and under the tutelage of a French pastry chef, I’m developing my talents from cakes and cupcakes to bread, donuts, pretzels, and croissants. I hope to be able to bring some of this to my menu soon. I hope to be able to share my table and my love for food with you..
