The diversity of Indian cuisine is what attracts people to try it. If you’re a foodie, then you know you have tried Indian dishes that belong to different parts of the country. Among the various regions in India, South India is that place where you can satisfy your craving for any type of food.

The variety of dishes in South India is so large you could eat a different dish every single day of the year yet not finish trying everything. Every state of South India is widely known for some popular dishes. Besides, these states are also known for their signature taste. For instance, if you were to try spicy dishes then food from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are the best, whereas Karnataka is the state where you can devour mildly spicy cuisine. Kerala, on the other hand, is well known for its addition of coconut in the majority of the dishes.

1. Appam - Kerala
Appam is one of the most popular dishes consumed in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It is made from rice flour batter and coconut milk and looks somewhat like a pancake. Appam is consumed with sambar, coconut chutney, and other South Indian curries

2. Puliogare - Andhra Pradesh
Puliogare is a well-known rice dish in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. It is prepared with turmeric, curry leaves, tamarind, green chilies, ginger, coriander, yellow lentils, and rice. Other spices like mustard seeds and sesame seeds are also added to enhance the flavor of this dish

3. Sambar - Tamil Nadu
Sambar is undoubtedly one of those dishes from the South Indian cuisine that no one from Kerala or Tamil Nadu can do without. It is a healthy food as various vegetables like tomato, pumpkin, eggplant, and okra are added to it. Sambar is most commonly had with steamed rice, medu vada, and idli.

4. Medu Vada - Tamil Nadu
This doughnut-like food item that you often see at South Indian restaurants is one thing that’ll make you fall in love with South Indian cuisine. Medu vada is a hot and crispy fritter prepared with a batter of black lentils and spiced with chili, onions, and curry leaves. The best way to consume it is with sambar and coconut chutney.

5. Hyderabadi Biryani - Hyderabad
Although it is difficult to believe that biryani could belong to the south, it's true. Hyderabad, a city of Telangana, is popular for its delicious Hyderabadi biryani. The meat cooked in a mixture of yogurt, lemon, onions and a lot of spices smeared on the basmati rice is one of the best food indulgences you could experience.
