Guide to hosting a successful Holi Party Published Mar 10th, 2022
Guide to hosting a successful Holi Party | Holi Hai with Quicklly

If the power of delectable fragrances could transport us, we’d all want to come home for Holi.

The smell of freshly cooked, slightly roasted, ghee-infused puran poli, mixed with the aromatic simmering of butter chicken or the sticky sweetness of jalebies and ghewars – each of these invoke a faint memory that is reminiscent of a festival dear to the hearts of so many Indians, including those living round the world.

The significance of Holi is mired in varied legend and mythological stories. The most popular one is that of a king Hiranyakashap, who rose to great power and wished for everyone to worship him. His son, Prahlad rebelled to worship Lord Vishnu. To rid of such rebellious acts, the king ordered his sister Holika to sit Prahlad on her lap and enter blazing fire. While her boon to be protected from the fire would leave her unscathed, Prahlad would perish.  However, in a twist of events, Prahlad’s devotion to his lord protected him though the fire and burned Holika to the ground. The tradition of lighting the bonfire came to be known as Holika Dahan that is celebrated to the day.

However, over the years, the sentiments of the celebration have evolved.

From the hazy sights of dusty gulal in the air to the sound of hushed whispers when setting up soak-worthy pranks, there is a go-to Holi story in each of lives that brings a wave of warmth and laughter to our hearts. Regardless of where we are in the world, we seek our tribe of fervent Holi fanatics to share and revel in similar experiences of the festival and in many ways, create new traditions of our own.

If you find yourself shuffling excitedly through your calendar, or hitting up message threads to say, “Let’s do something for Holi”, you’ve come to the right place.

Here’s everything you need to host the perfect Holi Party this year!

1. What’s Holi without a little bit of color!

Find the perfect shades of red, green, blues and yellows to fill that day with colors. Slip in the black for the brave hearts too. Brownie points if you can compete with your friends over childhood stories of who had it worse with eggs, mucky waters, and glitter.

2. Savor the flavors

Food certainly brings people closer, especially when they remind you of familiar places. Order authentic ready-to-eat Indian meals for favorites such as Butter Chicken, Paneer Tikka Masala to Methi Malai Matar. With Quicklly, you can enjoy free nation-wide delivery to your doorstep, making party planning hassle-free.

3. The best thing about Holi are the sweets

Nothing makes the festivities more joyous that the large spread of burfis and ladoos. You don’t need to have a sweet tooth to appreciate the pleasures of Indian sweets. There is always an assortment of varied sweets, and you can be rest assured that there is always something for everyone. Rajbhog Foods are one of the leading stores on Quicklly that can help make your Holi party a real delight to be at. By offering free delivery on a wide range of sweets and party snacks, they are a go-to for every desi in town planning a Holi Party.

4. Fizzy drinks are so passe, bring in the Thandai

A milk- based concoction of varied nuts, seeds, herbs (wink!) and spices, no Holi party is ever complete without a little bit of home-made Thandai going around. All your dry ingredients you need to make the perfect batch can be delivered to you— courtesy Quicklly
